Global travel insurer seeks to empower travelers with disabilities to travel safely, comfortably and independently with a robust suite of online resources
HOUSTON (October 14, 2026) – Travel Guard, part of Zurich Cover-More, is empowering travelers with disabilities to plan and navigate trips with greater confidence through a new accessible travel safety resource hub. The microsite brings together expert guidance, videos and practical resources on accessible transportation, accommodations and destinations.
According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1.3 billion people, or one in six people globally, live with a significant disability. To better understand the accessibility challenges travelers face, Travel Guard commissioned a survey of 889 individuals with lived experience of accessibility needs. The survey found that 79% of respondents consider reliable accessibility information important when planning travel, 40% have avoided a destination because of accessibility concerns, and 60% said they would travel more if accessibility barriers were removed.
The findings underscore the continued need for practical resources and reliable information that help travelers evaluate accessibility considerations before they travel.
“More than a decade ago, we recognized a growing need for better travel safety information and began developing practical resources to help travelers prepare,” said Rhonda Sloan, CMO, North America. “This initiative extends that commitment by making accessibility an essential part of travel preparedness. While many destinations have made progress, significant barriers remain. We want to help travelers anticipate accessibility needs and navigate their journeys more comfortably and independently.”
Mobility, vision, hearing, cognitive and sensory needs, and medical conditions, such as allergies, can shape every stage of a journey. The initiative highlights these varied accessibility considerations and provides information and resources to help more travelers plan with their needs in mind.
