Seabourn Guests Make History on a Record-Setting Antarctic Voyage

A journey to the edge of the world pushes exploration farther south than ever before

History is being made at the bottom of the world.

Guests aboard Seabourn Venture’s current 12-Day Antarctica Exploration voyage (January 28–February 9) didn’t just witness the frozen beauty of Antarctica — they became part of it. During this extraordinary sailing, Seabourn and its guests achieved a series of unprecedented milestones, setting new records not only for the luxury cruise line, but across the entire Carnival Corporation fleet.

Among the voyage’s remarkable achievements, Seabourn Venture crossed the Antarctic Circle and became the most southerly ship on the Antarctic Peninsula at the time, reaching an astonishing 70° South — the furthest south any Seabourn or Carnival Corporation vessel has ever traveled. The expedition also marked Seabourn’s first exploration of the remote George VI Sound, venturing far beyond the peninsula’s more commonly visited routes.

Perhaps most unforgettable for guests was the opportunity to step directly onto Antarctic Sea ice at approximately 69.5° South, raising a Champagne toast at the southerliest point any Seabourn guest has ever stood. The voyage also brought guests ashore at historic Base E on Stonington Island, a rarely visited former British research station that offers a powerful connection to mid-20th-century Antarctic exploration.

Led by Captain Simon Bishop and Expedition Leader Luqui Bernacchi, the journey seamlessly blended serious exploration with once-in-a-lifetime moments. Guests experienced Zodiac landings at the edge of the ice, expert insights from a world-class expedition team, and the awe-inspiring realization that they were standing on Antarctic Sea ice — knowing they had helped set company-wide records in one of the most remote places on Earth.

This landmark voyage underscores Seabourn’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of ultra-luxury expedition travel, offering guests rare access, deep exploration, and truly historic experiences — all at the edge of the world.
