Resorts World Bimini Launches Hurricane Relief Efforts

MIAMI (Sept. 5, 2019) – Hurricane Dorian struck the Bahamas on Sunday, September 1, breaking records as the strongest hurricane to ever make landfall in the region. Fortunately, the island of Bimini was not in Dorian’s primary path and was spared any major damage. As a result, Resorts World Bimini will resume regular operations on Sept. 6, 2019, and has begun outreach to help in necessary recovery efforts throughout the Bahamas.

“The entire Resorts World Bimini team is focused on making sure our Bahamian family is getting the help needed to start on the path to recovery,” said Missy Lawrence, President of Resorts World Bimini. “Our team leaders will work with the impacted individuals to determine short and long-term support plans, including emotional support. The amount of support we have received thus far from the resort team in Bimini, Miami, as well as our network of vendors has exceeded our expectations and will accelerate our plan to assist in the recovery efforts.”

Currently, Resorts World Bimini is in the process of assuring the safety and well-being of the 200 team members who live and/or have family in Freeport/Grand Bahama Island or the Abaco Islands. The Resorts World Bimini team is also working on providing transport out of Freeport via the Baleària Caribbean Fast Ferry following the request for assistance of several team members that have been impacted. Additionally, the team is launching a series of fundraisers to assist in the recovery efforts. The first fundraiser will take place on Thursday, September 12 from 5pm-8pm at the Hilton Miami Downtown in the 1601 Lounge. All proceeds from the event will be donated to a relief fund in coordination with Miami’s DJ Laz.

Resorts World has donated $50,000 to the RAV Bahamas Hurricane Relief Fund. The group includes RAV Bahamas Construction, the City of Miami, NEMA (National Emergency Management for the Bahamas), Baleària Caribbean and Seacor, with the latter two playing a critical role in the transport of goods to Freeport. Donations and funds will be used to purchase, transfer and distribute necessary supplies throughout the Bahamas in an expedited manner.
