Red Carnation Hotels is a proud sibling of the Travel Corporation’s family of brands and works in proud partnership with its TreadRight Foundation to #MakeTravelMatter. TTC remains dedicated to removing as many unnecessary single use plastics from its worldwide supply chains on our thousands of immersive trips and experiences delivered in over 70 countries around the world, every day.
The Green Team:
Red Carnation Hotels continue to reduce most unnecessary single-use plastics within our properties, and we remain committed and dedicated to achieving these important steps by December 2022. Red Carnation has established Green Teams at all our properties to put these steps in motion to achieve our three-year plastic elimination goal.
We’ve made plenty of progress so far, switching our takeaway coffee cups and lids to compostable paper and corn starch versions and eliminating the use of plastic sanitation bags for TV remote controls, opting for recyclable paper instead.
In addition to this, we’re in the process of discontinuing the use of other plastic items such as cocktail stirrers, toothpicks and coffee capsules.
Plastic Alternatives:
In the fight against plastic water bottles, our London hotels are proud to continue an ongoing partnership with Belu Water, recipients of the Queens Award for Enterprise, Sustainable Development in 2017. A like-minded company, Belu is known for its ethical glass bottles, which are made from 45 per cent recycled material, and it’s also famous for donating 100 percent of its profits to Wateraid.
In 2018, we continued to work with our hotel suppliers to find alternatives for the plastic bottles typically used for hotel toiletries. In Europe, we’re very proud to have recycling initiatives in place for unused soap and toiletries, such as The Egerton House Hotel’s partnership with Clean Conscience, a charitable organization that recycles and repurpose partially used toiletries in order to provide hygiene products to those in need.
Beach Cleanups and Water Conservation:
As well as sustainable schemes and partnerships, the staff at The Red Carnation Hotel Collection aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty in order to help the environment. Employees at The Twelve Apostles, The Oyster Box, and The Chesterfield Palm Beach are invited to participate in weekly or monthly beach clean-ups and guests are also welcome to take part.
At The Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa, water saving initiatives in Cape Town are incredibly important. Hotel staff does everything they can to save water and over 40 initiatives have beenimplemented–such as the replacement of bath plugs with two-minute shower timers in guest rooms, reusable ice cubes, water-less urinals, systems to collect and reuse otherwise wasted water and rain water and more. The hotel has set up a water team, which form part of their Green Team, and a Water Warrior to lead the process in the hotel.
With the above initiatives in place, the hotel has reduced water consumption by 42% from Jan. 2016 to 2017.
At The Red Carnation Hotel Collection, we’re committed to environmental sustainability. Visit any of our properties to discover how we’re implementing our Project 2022 to eliminate single-use plastics.
