North America Ranks Second Worldwide for Growth in Summer Travel Intent in 2026

Data Appeal’s analysis shows the United States is benefiting from shifting global travel patterns, strong summer travel demand, and increased interest associated with the FIFA World Cup, with major gateway cities leading growth in international travel intent.

FLORENCE, Italy, June 11, 2026 — International travel demand for the United States is strengthening ahead of the summer season, contributing to North America’s position as the world’s second-fastest-growing region for international travel intent in summer 2026, according to new analysis from The Data Appeal Company / Almaviva Group.

Based on Data Appeal Mabrian’s Share of Searches Index*, which tracks global flight search behavior and travel intent, North America accounts for 8.36% of worldwide international travel intent between June and August 2026, gaining +1.01 percentage points compared with the same period in 2025—one of the strongest growth performances among all world regions.

Data Appeal’s analysis shows that international travel intent to the U.S. is concentrated around major gateway destinations that continue to attract leisure and event-driven travel. New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Orlando stand out among the U.S. destinations generating the highest levels of international interest for summer 2026.

“North America’s strong performance is being supported by robust global air connectivity, growing demand linked to major international sporting events, including FIFA-related travel, and the enduring appeal of the region among international travelers,” explains Maria Pradissitto, North America’s Market Manager at Data Appeal.

The findings also point to sustained demand across key routes serving the East Coast, West Coast and Southern United States, reinforcing the country’s broad appeal across multiple traveler segments and source markets.

Canada is also contributing to the region’s momentum beyond tournament-related travel. Vancouver (0.60%, +0.11pp) and Calgary (0.35%, +0.09pp) are among the fastest-growing Canadian destinations, reflecting the broader strength of North American travel demand this summer.

Southern Europe Leads Travel Intent Growth, While Asia Navigates Geopolitical Uncertainty

Travel intent is showing different patterns across other world regions. Although Eastern Asia continues to capture the largest share of global international travel intent for summer 2026 (14.41%), the region records a year-on-year decline of -1.67 percentage points. Meanwhile, Western Asia experiences the sharpest decrease worldwide (-2.69 percentage points), reflecting the impact of ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East on travel demand.

Beyond North America, Southern Europe and Latin America & the Caribbean are the regions recording the strongest gains in travel intent this summer. Southern Europe stands out as the season’s top-performing region, capturing 11.71% of global international travel intent and increasing by +2.47 percentage points compared with summer 2025. The growth is driven primarily by Mediterranean destinations, particularly Greece, Spain and Italy, supported by strong air connectivity and sustained demand for leisure travel.

Meanwhile, Latin America and the Caribbean account for 3.38% of global international travel intent, gaining +0.72 percentage points year-on-year and ranking among the regions posting the strongest growth in demand this season. Within the region, Peru, Brazil and Mexico lead demand growth, while Puerto Rico, Aruba and Guatemala demonstrate the diversity of demand across urban, beach and cultural travel segments.

“Summer travel intent data suggests that, as air connectivity and flight corridors are disrupted by rerouting, higher costs and geopolitical uncertainty, long-haul demand is naturally reorganising towards destinations that feel closer, more familiar and more accessible,” adds Pradissitto. “This helps explain the strong performance of regions such as North America and Southern Europe, which are benefiting from shifts in global travel patterns while maintaining strong international appeal.”
