Chile Reopens its Borders to Foreign Travelers

As of October 1, Chile will begin to welcome non-resident foreigners back into the country who are in compliance with the various health requirements, which include a negative Covid-19 PCR test result, mobility pass and more.

SANTIAGO, CHILE (September 16, 2021) – Chile is ready to welcome travelers from around the world beginning on October 1st after over a year and a half with closed borders and restrictions. The modification of the country’s Protected Borders Plan will allow entry to all fully vaccinated non-resident foreigners who meet the requirements. Visitors will be able to enter through dedicated airports in Santiago, Iquique or Antogagasta.

Entry Requirements

To enter Chile, all travelers will have to complete a series of mandatory requirements, which include:

  • Completion of the “Travelers’ Affidavit” form 72 hours prior to travel (www.c19.cl). The electronic form includes contact information, medical history, and previous travel history.
  • Travel insurance to cover any medical expenses related to Covid-19 with a minimum coverage of $30,000 USD for health benefits.
  • A negative Covid-19 PCR test performed within 72 hours prior to travel.
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccine, which will allow visitors to obtain the Mobility Pass issued by the Chilean Ministry of Health. The pass can be requested at mevacuno.gob.cl.
  • Upon entry, all visitors must complete a five-day isolation period at an address of their choice and presented on the country’s entry form, which may be a hotel or a residence.

In addition to this mandatory five-day isolation, every person must comply with the traveler’s follow-up process, which is done over a period of 14 days and consists of daily self-reporting of health status, current location, and testing via email.

About Chile

Chile is a country rich in diversity and contrast. It possesses a special geography that distinguishes it from other world destinations. One of its most unique features is having territory in three world regions: South America, Oceania, and Antarctica. Its continental length from north to south reaches over 4,300 kilometers in a narrow strip of land between the rugged Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Such a great expanse gives way to an array of privileged landscapes, beginning with the planet’s most arid desert, transitioning through a fertile central valley, down through a land of lakes and volcanoes and ending in the glaciers, fjords, and granite mountains of wild Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego – the farthest reaches of the continent. Reasons to discover Chile include: surprising natural wonders such as the Atacama, the driest desert in the world with more than 200 native flowers; culture and heritage with six UNESCO world heritage sites and firsthand experience with the Mapuche Culture; world-class sports and adventures – ski the Andes, surf in Pichilemu or go scuba diving in Easter Island; flavors and wine from the end of the world; astronomical tourism with the clearest skies in the Southern Hemisphere; vibrant city life in Santiago;  health and wellness with 270+ thermal springs, wine therapy and treatments using local products such as olives or avocado; among many others.
