Borealis Basecamp Adds New Features, Increases Options for Those Chasing the Northern Lights in Alaska This Winter

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — July 1, 2025 — Borealis Basecamp, Alaska’s iconic northern-lights viewing resort located just 25 miles north of Fairbanks, is unveiling a series of updates for the 2025–26 winter season designed to expand guest options and meet growing demand for immersive Arctic experiences. Under new ownership by Stellar Collection, Borealis Basecamp will increase guest comfort and wellness options with:

  • Arctic Truck excursions: Guests can now experience the frozen wilderness from a custom-built Arctic Truck designed for winter sightseeing. The vehicle, a modified Toyota Tundra, features oversized tires and a clear enclosure for 360-degree sunset and landscape views.
  • New Adventure Center: Basecamp Adventures now operates from a 50-foot yurt on the southwest side of the property. Guests can check in here before heading out for flightseeing, Arctic Circle tours, reindeer experiences, dog sledding, snowmachining or the newly added three-hour snowmachine tour, ideal for those seeking a mid-length backcountry experience.
  • Additional accommodations: Five new igloos have been added to the property. This brings the total number of aurora domes to 36, each designed for optimal aurora viewing from bed.
  • More dining options: In addition to Latitude 65, Borealis Basecamp’s signature restaurant, two new food outlets opened last season. The Pub offers a casual, full-service menu, while the Café, operating out of a yurt near the Adventure Center, serves coffee, snacks and lunch with views stretching to Denali on clear days.
  • New helicopter tour option: In partnership with Alpine Air Alaska, Borealis Basecamp now offers scenic helicopter flights over the White Mountains, launching directly from Basecamp Adventures.
  • Expanded wellness with barrel saunas: Two new barrel saunas will be available for guest use this winter, each featuring an attached changing room. These cozy 8×12-foot saunas provide an upgrade from the previous sauna and are ideal for unwinding after a day in the snow.
  • Family-friendly Cube suites: Two new adjoining Cube units are opening, bringing the property’s Cube Suite offerings to three. These accommodations feature floor-to-ceiling windows, ensuite bathrooms and treehouse-style bunks, perfect for families traveling together.

“Every year we look for ways to make the experience at Borealis Basecamp even more seamless, comfortable and unforgettable,” said Adriel Butler, founder of Borealis Basecamp. “With new activities, more space for families and improved access to nature, this upcoming season is shaping up to be one of our most memorable yet.”

Set on over 100 acres of boreal forest in Interior Alaska, this remote, northern lights resort is known for its aurora domes with sweeping, transparent ceilings, which offer unobstructed views of the aurora borealis from bed. Peak season runs from mid-November through late March, and stays at Borealis Basecamp include transportation from Fairbanks, accommodations and access to onsite dining and curated winter excursions.

Guests can choose from two-, three- or four-night packages and stay in an igloo or panoramic cube suite. Onsite amenities include three dining venues and guided activities such as dog sledding, reindeer walks, snowmachine tours, and flightseeing over the White Mountains — all without leaving the property.

Packages start at just over $1,000 per day for two guests and vary based on length of stay, accommodations and group size. Prime travel dates — especially holidays and peak aurora windows — often book months in advance. For more information or to plan a trip, visit borealisbasecamp.net/packages.
