Bahia Principe Grand Tulum has been completely remodeled after USD $40 million investment
MIAMI (November 17, 2020) – Inspired by its natural surrounding and the areas’ deep cultural roots, Bahia Principe Grand Tulum made its official debut on November 15th following a year of extensive renovations and a USD $40 million investment. As Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts flagship property when the brand first arrived to Mexico over 20 years ago, the Bahia Principe Grand Tulum has been completely transformed, now placing its Mayan origin front and center as it merges seamlessly into the beautiful natural environment. With the objective of continously enhancing the guest experience, providing value to the areas’ tourism sector and demonstrating commitment to the development of the country, this project marks an important milestone for Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts and parent company Grupo Piñero. The massive renovation at Bahia Principe Grand Tulum represents more than 400 new jobs, in addition to the 2,500 positions it already occupies in other hotels and business divisions, not to mention a multitude of indirect jobs.
“We are very excited to officially open our doors and welcome clients at Bahia Principe Grand Tulum. Despite it being a very difficult year with many setbacks, we are very proud to open this resort as planned,” explained Lluisa Salord, SVP Global Sales, Contracting & Distribution. “The entire team has put a lot of love and dedication into this project to appropriately showcase its Mayan legacy that can be experienced throughout the resort, linked to our Origin concept.”
Based on the nature of its setting and the roots of the Mayan culture, this resort was reimagined under the concept entitled “Origin”. Rooms and common areas have been redesigned following the same conceptual line highlighting the ancestral Mexican and Mayan traditions. Using a neutral color palette and textures that are inspired by the earth and surrounding nature, the resorts’ inviting guestrooms feature sleek design for ultimate comfort and functionality.
Bahia Principe Grand Tulum’s culinary offering is just as refreshing offering everything from delectable traditional Mexican staples to spices from the Far East. Each space of the seven dining venues has been carefully created so that the gastronomy experience is enhanced by its beautifully designed surroundings. Guests can choose from the Yucatan Buffet, Hindu Thai Restaurant, Gourmet Don Pablo, Mexicano Tequila, Restaurant Rodizio La Gran Tortuga, The Truck Beach Restaurant, Andale Burger, and La Isla Bar.
An expansive Kids Zone named Zama, which was the original name of Tulum’s walled city, features numerous activity areas where children can learn about the Mayan culture through play, archaeology, and exploration. There are ten dedicated spaces for hours of fun including: a Kids Club, with indoor and outdoor areas for activities, picnics, shows and more; a sand area to tease curious discoverers who can uncover Mayan artifacts; a playground for the little ones to explore the Mayan jungle; an open-air space for the Eco Bahia Foundation that brings children closer to the natural wealth of the area; the Jungle park with ziplines, tunnels, slides and more; and the Iguana, a massive emblematic structure of one the areas historic species where children can
climb, slide and explore. The water spaces include the Cenote that meanders through the jungle, a Splash area with jets and games, and finally an amazing Water Park with giant Mayan masks and endless fun for everyone.
In addition to three pools and beach area, guests can enjoy a relaxing spa with outdoor palapas for treatments alfresco, numerous green spaces and trails, water and land recreational activities, a fully equipped fitness center, shopping area, and a discotheque. A dynamic Teen Club invites young adults to enjoy some independence with music, games, workshops, and other recreation. There is also grand theater, which was designed with inspiration from the colors and costumes of past Mayan warriors, that perfectly sets the stage for daily vibrant performances.
As part of the company’s commitment to contribute to the local communities and the environment in the destinations where they are set, resources were also dedicated to the Integrated Coastal Management Plan. This project, which is part of the company’s corporate responsibility and sustainability strategy, has five programs including improving the state of the beaches, achieving better management of resources, promoting the conservation of biodiversity, enhancing the sustainable management of the landscape, and promoting environmental awareness and education. In Mexico, the focus is on the recovery of the hydrodynamic balance of the bay, the restoration of the dune strip and the management of access and uses of the coastal area. These efforts are further supported by the Bahia Principe Ecological Foundation and its team of professionals who participate in all the conservation projects that Grupo Piñero has been carrying out in Mexico for more than 20 years.
Bahia Principe Grand Tulum is located within the Bahia Principe Riviera Maya Resort, just 60 minutes from the Cancun International Airport, 30 minutes from Playa del Carmen and 20 minutes from Tulum’s majestic Mayan ruins. In total, there are four resorts within the complex, four luxurious spas, countless swimming pools, fitness centers, a convention center, commercial areas and the PGA Riviera Maya by Bahia Principe 18-hole golf course designed by the famous Robert Trend Jones II.
