ARC Data Shows Nearly 10 Percent Increase in Air Ticket Sales in April 2018
ARLINGTON, Va. – May 16, 2018 – Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC) reported today that the consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold by U.S.-based travel agencies increased nearly 10 percent in April as compared to April 2017, totaling $8.6 billion vs. $7.8 billion. The average U.S. roundtrip ticket price* for April 2018 was $484, down $11 from March. Average April 2018 ticket prices are down approximately 3.5 percent compared to April 2017.
The total number of passenger trips* settled by ARC for U.S. travel agencies increased 9.4 percent to 25,150,687 compared to 22,997,115 in April 2017. U.S. domestic trips increased nearly 9 percent while international passenger trips increased 10.6 percent.
Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD)** sales in April 2018 comprised more than $6.9 million, a 12.5 percent decrease compared to April 2017. EMD transactions also decreased 13 percent to 121,097 in April 2018 vs. 139,349 in April 2017.
