AmaWaterways’ 11-Night Secrets of Egypt & The Nile Explores the Ancient Country’s Culture, History and Mystique

Calabasas, CA, September 2024 – AmaWaterways, a leader in luxury river cruising, takes guests on a fascinating exploration of Egypt and the historic Nile on its 11-night Secrets of Egypt & the Nile. This exceptional journey offers guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in the 5,000-year-old history, culture, and mystique of Egypt, from its vibrant capital city of Cairo to the ancient wonders along the Nile.

The itinerary kicks off with three nights in Cairo where guests, led by Egyptologists, visit the Egyptian Museum, home to 120,000 artifacts, including King Tutankhamen’s legendary treasures; the Alabaster Mosque, a striking architectural gem with views stretching to the Pyramids of Giza; and the UNESCO-designated capital of ancient Memphis, home to the Step Pyramid of King Zoser, the Great Sphinx, and the Giza Pyramids.

The magic continues with embarkation onto one of AmaWaterways’ luxury ships – the 72-guest AmaDahila or the 82-guest AmaLilia – for a seven-night sailing along the Nile. Highlights include a private tour of the Tomb of Queen Nefertari; and tours of the tombs in the Valley of the Kings; and the Temple of Hatshepsut, one of Egypt’s most successful pharaohs and the country’s first female ruler. An up-close view of the Colossi of Memnon and its two gigantic statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, and the Temple of Horus in Edfu, one of Egypt’s best-preserved temples is a must. And guests can also enjoy a scenic felucca ride (traditional wooden sailing boat) around Elephantine Island; a visit to Abu Simbel, known for its two massive rock-cut temples and the four colossal statues of Ramses II on the outside; and a fascinating visit to the Great Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek and falcon god Haroeri. There is also plenty of free time to do independent exploration, wander among the markets and enjoy taking in the sights and sounds of this ancient land.

Evenings are also filled with cultural experiences, including a traditional Galabeya (traditional long robe) evening, an unforgettable folkloric belly dance performance onboard, and informal cooking classes.

The immersive itinerary concludes in Cairo with guests being treated to an exclusive private tour of Abdeen Palace, one of the most luxurious palaces in the world, followed by lunch at the palace, and a visit to Coptic Cairo, exploring historic sites such as the Hanging Church and the Ben Ezra Synagogue.

Both luxury ships offer an intimate atmosphere with an abundance of space for guests to relax and unwind after a day of awe-inspiring discovery. Designed to reflect the culture of the region, AmaDahlia welcomes guests aboard with vibrant colors and patterns, along with inviting public spaces to take in the stunning views of the Nile River. The ship boasts a wealth of amenities including spacious suites, a swimming pool and bar on the Sun Deck, massage rooms, and delectable locally sourced cuisine at the Main Restaurant and The Chef’s Table specialty restaurant with spectacular views. The 11-night cruise and land itinerary also includes three nights in Cairo pre-cruise and one-night in Cairo post-cruise, where guests may stay in the Hotel St. Regis or Ritz Carlton.
