Toronto, December 4, 2019: Canadian journalists and social media influencers will be visiting the Dominican Republic in record numbers this winter as part of an ambitious program in support of the country as a safe, family-friendly destination. In addition to top destinations such as Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, Samaná or La Romana, journalists and influencers will be experiencing cultural destinations such as La Vega in the middle of the “Carnaval” season, the hidden spots of the colonial zone of Santo Domingo and much more.  Media groups will be visiting the country in back to back press trips from November 2019 to March 2020 and are encouraged to use the hashtag #TheRealDR.

According to Cosette Garcia, Director of the Montreal Tourism Promotion Office, the program is an acknowledgement of the importance of the Canadian market to the Dominican Republic. “We are thrilled to proactively invite press to our country this winter. The program is wide-reaching and will include trade publications, consumer outlets, glossy magazines and top influencers.  Our hotel partners have stepped up across the country – media will see everything from high-energy all-inclusive resorts, to small boutique hotels, to five-star luxury properties.”

During the month of November, four Canadian trade publications from Ontario and Quebec visited Punta Cana—including a stop to surf at Playa Macao and a visit to the trilling Scape Park in Cap Cana—resulting in positive headlines.  This week, journalists from national dailies including The Globe and Mail and National Post will visit the city of Santo Domingo and Casa de Campo resort in La Romana, followed immediately by a trip mid-December to focus on luxurious destination hotels in Puerto Plata and Playa Grande, and Meetings and Incentive properties in Santo Domingo. In the New Year, three more groups will visit in January, February and March.

“This is the first time we have attempted an aggressive visiting media program of this nature, and we are humbled by the amazing response from the Canadian media” added Garcia. “The best editors, journalists and influencers are excited to visit the Dominican Republic, and we look forward to rolling out the red carpet this winter. The media have an important role to play in the image of our entire country and we intend to show them a warm Dominican welcome.”

Media interested in participating in one of the press trips should contact Siren Communications.
