World Tourism Film Awards 2022 – Valencia, Spain

Organized by the International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals (CIFFT) and Visit Valencia, the World Tourism Film Awards recognize creative excellence in tourism audiovisual productions.

Valencia, October 31, 2022 – Valencia will host the World Tourism Film Awards for the second consecutive year. In its 34th edition, the event will bring personalities from the tourism and audiovisual industry to receive the prestigious awards and titles of the best tourism films in the world. The awards ceremony will take place at the CaixaForum, located in the City of Arts and Sciences architectural complex, on November 24th.

Organized by the International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals (CIFFT) and Visit Valencia, the World Tourism Film Awards recognize creative excellence in audiovisual tourism productions. The event will honor the best promotional films in five thematic categories: Tourism Destination City, Region, Country, Tourism Products and Tourism Services.

Emiliano García Domene, Councilor for Tourism and Internationalization of the City of Valencia, expressed that, “Valencia is betting on an increasingly digital, dynamic and personalized promotion, in order to amplify our identity and creative capacity and in which audiovisual content gains greater prominence. Therefore, it fills us with pride that the organization of the CIFFT Awards has chosen our city to deliver, for another year, the awards for the best videos of tourism promotion campaigns.” He also detailed that “thanks to this gala, València will host the best professionals in tourism promotion, and this will grant us the opportunity to show them how the city has become, in 2022, the World Design Capital and the European Capital of Smart Tourism”.

Following the successful collaboration between CIFFT and Visit València to announce the winners in 2021, this 34th edition marks the first time the event adopts a face-to-face format outside Vienna. Alexander V. Kammel, director of CIFFT, stated that, “In recent years, Valencia has consistently demonstrated its potential and is now in the spotlight as a global benchmark in tourism innovation and sustainability. We are honored to work with Visit València to bring the World Tourism Film Awards 2022 to this lively city that combines a rich artistic heritage, architecture, gastronomy and cultural traditions.”

Recently, Valencia has positioned itself as a MICE destination of excellence, attracting relevant international events. The World Tourism Film Awards coincide with another UNWTO-funded event, the 3rd World Conference on Smart Destinations.

The open forum will discuss the opportunities and challenges for tourism destinations, the solutions they need to remain competitive and sustainable and how technology and innovation applied to the tourism sector are generating structural changes. This meeting is seen as an opportunity to raise awareness of how the audiovisual industry can provide tourism revenues and long-term prosperity to destinations and the importance of innovation in tourism communication.

To achieve the title of World’s Best Tourism Film, more than 3,000 promotional videos from 90 countries participated in the CIFFT Circuit, a year-long competition with ten festivals on four continents: New York, Cannes, Los Angeles, Vienna, Cape Town and Kyoto, among others.

The World Tourism Film Awards are supported by the World Tourism Organization, the European Travel Commission, the Caribbean Tourism Organization, the Central American Tourism Organization and Skal International. The initiative is also supported by the Tourism and Society Think Tank (TSTT).
