Viva Resorts by Wyndham Makes History as First All-Inclusive Resort to Reach Top Wyndham Green Certification

MIAMI, JUNE 17, 2025 – In a groundbreaking achievement for the hospitality industry, Viva Maya by Wyndham and Viva Azteca by Wyndham, both located in Playa del Carmen, have become the first all-inclusive resorts in the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts portfolio to achieve Level 5 Expert—the highest tier of the Wyndham Green Certification Program.

This milestone places the two resorts in truly elite company—only seven hotels in Latin America and fewer than 50 properties worldwide have earned this top-level distinction.

The Wyndham Green program is a rigorous, five-tier certification system that assesses a property’s sustainable practices, including efficient resource management, environmental impact reduction, community engagement, and ongoing development of green initiatives. Level 5 Expert status recognizes hotels that demonstrate exceptional leadership in environmental stewardship and sustainability innovation.

“This recognition reflects our deep commitment to a tourism model that respects the natural environment, promotes responsible practices, and delivers high-quality experiences without compromising the planet’s future,” said Erika Sordo, Corporate Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Viva Resorts by Wyndham.

The Wyndham Green Certification encompasses the implementation of a recycling program, towel and linen reuse, interior energy-efficient lighting, environmental guest communication, property education and utility tracking. Responsible tourism remains one of Viva’s guiding pillars including a focus on protecting the environment, as well as a commitment to fostering education and sports, promoting health and supporting local communities. These core areas express the brand’s continued efforts to protect the environment, remain responsive to social issues and improve the quality of life in its nearby communities and the world.

With this achievement, Viva Maya and Viva Azteca by Wyndham not only raise the bar for sustainable hospitality in Mexico’s Caribbean but also serve as an inspiration for the global travel industry to move toward more conscious and responsible tourism.

This milestone is part of a broader sustainability strategy for Viva Resorts by Wyndham, with all properties across its portfolio actively working toward advancing through the Wyndham Green program and placing environmental responsibility at the heart of their value proposition.
