Sygic Travel Adds Public Transport to its App and Website

November 7th, 2018 – Sygic, world’s leading GPS navigation provider, has added public transport route planning support. Users can now plan a trip including a subway or tram ride in hundreds of cities around the world. Both the web plannerSygic Maps and the mobile apps for iPhone and Android contain this new feature.

“Public transport is in the long term a feature our users have been asking for the most. This new feature will come in handy especially when people are already in the city, because it allows them to easily display a route from their current position to their desired destination,” says Lukáš Nevosád, VP Travel at Sygic. “But it’s also possible to plan a route with public transport ahead of time and add it to your plan of a future trip. When you actually set off and connect to the internet let’s say a month later, the app will display valid connections for that moment then,“ adds Nevosád.

Sygic Travel includes public transport data for the majority of top tourist destinations in Europe (e.g. Prague, Venice, Milan, Barcelona, Madrid), North America (e.g. New York City, Washington D.C., San Francisco), Australia and New Zealand. The company is currently working on adding more cities. The public transport data is sourced directly from the individual cities and destinations that make their time tables publicly available as open data. The data is updated daily, including information about various closures, diversions and other changes.

How it works

Public transport routes are available in the Route planner on the Sygic Maps website and in the Sygic Travel mobile apps. On mobile, opening a place’s detail will also display information about the most efficient way to get there. Clicking the Navigate button will display all the possible routes: by car, on foot, and of course by public transport if there is data for the area available.

Except for public transport navigation, Sygic Travel can also calculate walking routes and handle car navigation. On the web, people can plan their car route and then send it easily to their GPS navigation.
