Miami, FL (March 2018) — Star Clippers is pleased to announce they are currently taking bookings for all late spring and summer 2019 sailings, as well as fall 2019 ocean crossings, aboard their three tall sailing ships. Summer sailing destinations include the Eastern and Western Mediterranean aboard the Royal Clipper and Star Flyer, and the waters around Malaysia aboard the Star Clipper. In the Mediterranean, Star Clippers is offering a new Greece itinerary celebrating the popular musical Mamma Mia, while in Indonesia a new sailing route takes guests to Brunei and ports along the island of Borneo. All sailing itineraries are detailed on the Star Clippers website, and can be booked by calling Star Clippers at 800-442-0551 or through a travel agent.
Beginning in May, 2019, Star Clippers will pay homage to the beloved romantic comedy Mamma Mia with their new “Mamma Mia Highlights” sailings through the Greek isles. This seven-night itinerary, sailing round trip out of Athens, will visit several of the islands where Mamma Mia—as well as the highly anticipated Mamma Mia 2—were filmed. Guests will visit the island of Skopelos, home to the most iconic Mamma Mia location—the tiny chapel of Agios Ioannis sto Kastri, where Sophie was married. Perched atop a rock cliff more than 300 feet above the Aegean Sea, this picturesque church features 100 steps carved into rock leading to its entrance as well as panoramic views from all sides. Also located on Skopelos is the sweeping view from “Villa Donna” (the actual house was a Hollywood set) and Kastani, the beach where Tanya sings “Does Your Mother Know.” This special itinerary will also call on the island of Skiathos, where the charming Old Port was the setting for the scene where the three fathers meet for the first time, and the area around the St. Nikolaos Bell Tower was the spot where Sophie mailed her letters. Star Clippers will offer four departures of the Mamma Mia Highlights itinerary in 2019: May 18, June 8, June 29 and August 17 and start at $1,730 per person based on double occupancy.
In Southeast Asia, new 10- and 11-night sailings between Singapore and Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Malaysia’s Sabah state in the northern part of the island of Borneo, offer travelers a unique look into some lesser-known ports in Malaysia and Brunei. Kota Kinabalu—or KK as the locals call it—is known for its bustling markets, modern boardwalk, budding arts and music scene and waterfront City Mosque. The city also serves as the gateway to Kinabalu National Park where Mount Kinabalu stands at 13,400 feet, Malaysia’s tallest peak and a mecca for climbers, jungle trekkers and campers. In Kuching, the historic waterfront provides an ideal venue for a stroll or to sample the local cuisine, while Miri is the main tourist gateway for numerous wildlife attractions, including Niah National Park with its expansive caves and waterfalls. A stop in Bandar Seri Begawan, formally known as Brunei Town and the capital of the Sultanate of Brunei, introduces guests to the biggest water village in the world as well as the picturesque Omar Ali Salifuddien Mosque. Other ports of call on this itinerary include the uninhabited island of Pulau Tiga, the recently developed city of Bintulu, and Nonsga Point Marina in Indonesia. Departures are available May 18, May 28, October 5, and October 15, 2019 and sailings start at $2,050 per person, double.
For more than 25 years, Star Clippers has been introducing travelers to the thrill of modern tall ship sailing to remote ports in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Indonesia and Far East. The company operates three of the world’s largest and tallest sailing vessels: Star Clipper and Star Flyer are traditional clipper ships with modern amenities carrying 170 guests, while the 227-guest Royal Clipperholds the Guinness World Record for being the largest and only five-masted, full-rigged sailing ship in service today. All three ships have expansive teak decks, swimming pools, informal dining, convivial tropical bars on deck and piano lounges. The brand’s newest vessel, Flying Clipper, will debut in late 2018.
