South Sea Cruises Group Launches ‘South Sea Cats’

Fiji’s newest resort transfers & half day snorkelling adventures

April 28, 2025 – South Sea Cruises Group is ushering in a new era for island travel in Fiji with the official launch of South Sea Cats – a brand-new service offering resort transfers and ultimate half-day snorkelling adventures onboard two purpose-built, high-speed catamarans.

South Sea Cats launches 01 May 2025, with two daily scheduled resort transfers across the Mamanuca Islands.

This will be followed by the debut of its half day products; Ride & Slide, launching 26 May 2025, offering the most fun you can have in half a day in Fiji!

“These purpose-built vessels operated under our new South Sea Cats brand are a first for Fiji,” says South Sea Cruises Group CEO, Brad Rutherford. We’re proud to partner with New Zealand designer Noah Thompson and local Fijian builders to deliver another innovative product that combines comfort, speed, and serious fun on the water.”

South Sea Cats includes two high-speed 14.8m catamarans – Lynx and Puma will begin operating daily resort transfers from Port Denarau to key Mamanuca Island resorts.

Each boat can comfortably seat up to 36 passengers, cruising at 22–26 knots, powered by twin 500HP Mercury Sea Pro outboards, the cleanest and most powerful commercially-rated engines of their kind.

New transfer services include morning and evening transfers.

Morning transfers are from northern Mamanuca resorts back to Port Denarau to connect with afternoon flights.

Evening transfers to key island resorts, enable same-day arrivals from Nadi International Airport.

“We’re solving a real challenge for travellers, maximising time at island resorts and reducing the need for overnight stays on the mainland. This is a smarter, faster and more comfortable alternative for resort transfers – one designed to fit perfectly with flight schedules and traveller expectations,” adds Rutherford.

Also launching is Ride & Slide, a half-day reef trip, an exciting new half-day snorkelling and sightseeing adventure, available in both morning and afternoon sessions.

The AM Ride & Slide is a 2.5-hour experience which includes morning tea, snorkel gear, paddleboards, and access to the inflatable slide.

Destinations include reef areas off Malamala or Tivua, depending on conditions.

The PM Ride & Slide is 4.5 hours and includes a light lunch, guided snorkelling, sightseeing around the Mamanuca Islands, and multiple swim/snorkel stops. Some sessions will include a stop at a sand cay, tide permitting.

Both trips depart from Port Denarau and return the same day, making them ideal for travellers with limited time who don’t want to compromise on adventure.

These are Fiji’s first commercial vessels to feature a giant inflatable slide, paddleboards, and top-deck jumping, turning a boat ride into a full-blown island adventure.

Designed for comfort but built for the tropics. Each vessel features:

  • A spacious cabin with open sides for a cooling breeze (weatherproofed when needed)
  • Top deck with gear storage and slide access
  • Rear entry for easy boarding from tenders or jetties, and bow access for beach landings
  • Generous bathroom and luggage storage areas

“South Sea Cats continue the commitment to leading the market in Fiji,” says Rutherford. Following the success of South Sea Island, Malamala Beach Club and South Sea Sailing, this launch further strengthens our position as the most dynamic provider of day trips and resort transport in the country.”
