Scenic Expands Space-Ship Redesigns to Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers in 2019

Reducing guest count, expanding wellness centers, adding SALT Therapy lounges and active excursions

Boston, May 16th, 2018 – In 2017, Scenic introduced a new ship design for its two Space-Ships sailing on France’s Saône and Rhône Rivers. The same concept of focusing on the guest’s experiential and physical enjoyments by expanding the company’s already well-rounded approach is now being brought to Europe’s Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers for 2019. All eight of the Space-Ships plying these rivers – Scenic Ruby, Pearl, Jasper, Opal, Amber, Crystal, Jade and Jewel – will be remodeled this winter.

Highlights include reducing the number of cabins/guest to 81/161 (Ruby and Pearl) and 83/165 (on the six others) while keeping the same crew count for even greater personal service; two new 520 ft² Royal Owners Suites; larger wellness centers which include the gym, massage services and hair dresser; and, unique to Scenic, a Salt Therapy lounge. On-board yoga and stretching classes, given by the onboard wellbeing coach, keep the guests limber for a day that can include newer, more active excursions such as bike tours on the company’s e-bikes and hiking up Buda Hill for an amazing view of Budapest. Every itinerary will offer a host of active excursions in 2019.

The three-station salt lounge offers guests a non-invasive way to feel energized and healthier while relaxing. The humidity and temperature-controlled room is handcrafted from salt bricks and creates a micro-climate of a natural salt mine. Its three inclined lounging chairs are separated by light curtains for privacy, and low-level lighting and calming music promotes the natural relaxing effects of the salt. Guests on board the two ships are free to use the rooms as they wish, spending up to a recommended 45 minutes in the peaceful environment. The negatively-charged salt ions bear a very high kinetic energy and offer the same refreshing feeling that one might find when standing on a beach. The ions also increase the efficacy of healing, improve respiration and skin conditions and boost the immune system. And finishing up with a customized Aroma Oil Massage is certain to leave the guest in a most relaxed state.

To make the decision even easier, Scenic has announced offers for guests booking a 2019 sailing by August 31, 2018, including:

  • Free air on every cabin and itinerary, including free Premium Economy for some stateroom categories on 11+ day sailings; $1,000 or $1,500 Scenic savings in lieu of free flights
  • $595 Premium Economy upgrades; Business class upgrades are also available
  • Up to $1,000 savings per couple for full payment by August 31, 2018
  • No single supplements on select sailings of 11+ days in April/May/July/Aug/Oct/Nov and 50% off in June and Sept and as well as all season long on 8- to 10-day departures
  • The specials are capacity controlled. Free flights revert to $295/$495 per person, depending on itinerary and stateroom category, once capacity limits are met.

The 5-star Scenic Space-Ships offer all-inclusive luxury experiences – from private butler service and unlimited complimentary beverages and spirits including mini-bar re-stocked daily, to full-size private balcony staterooms – all making use of Scenic’s unique Sun Lounge technology – where the walkout open-air balcony can convert to an all-weather lounge with a push of a button, expanding the living area of the stateroom. On-board river highlights and on-shore experiences are made exceptional by the included Scenic Tailormade handheld GPS guided tour system provided to every guest.

On board cuisine allows for up to six dining options, including the tradition of dégustation at Table La Rive, fine dining at Portobello’s and the more casual fare at the River Café. As with all Scenic river cruises, guests will never have to reach for the wallet or purse as everything is included (except a haircut or massage): tips and gratuities, expert local guides, all Scenic Freechoice activities that allow for a more personalized vacation, plus Scenic Enrich events which are exclusive to Scenic and its guests, transfers, all meals, etc.

Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours has grown over its 31-year history to include award-winning, all-inclusive escorted tours that take participants to many of the world’s most fascinating destinations; two award-winning river cruise lines – Scenic and Emerald Waterways; and the world’s first Discovery Yachts – Scenic Eclipse in 2018 and a sister ship in 2020. Award-winning Emerald Waterways’ seven Star Ships offer deluxe cruises in Europe and the Mekong, and in 2019, a deluxe yacht cruise on the Dalmatian Coast, while Scenic’s 15 Space-Ships offer truly all-inclusive, five-star river cruises in the same destinations as well as the Irrawaddy River in Myanmar and the Volga River in Russia.
