Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo (December 19, 2017). Riviera Maya was once again recognized as the “Best Destination in Mexico” by the Travel Weekly Readers Choice Awards, an honor that has been bestowed upon the destination since 2004.

The Travel Weekly Awards, recognize the best in travel across 77 categories, including hotels, tours, destinations, airlines and cruises. The nominees and award recipients were chosen in two rounds of voting by Travel Weekly ’s audience of travel professionals. The coveted awards are presented annually to the industry suppliers who led the way in product and service during the past year. The open ballot phase of the voting was conducted during the summer. Travel Weekly readers were invited to write in the names of any company they believe best exemplifies a particular category. The leading vote recipients were identified as finalists, and voting on finalists took place September through November 2017.

The award ceremony took place at the Conrad hotel in New York City December 14. Tourism Board Director for Riviera Maya and Cozumel, Darío Flota received the prestigious accolade.

“Without a doubt, this award consolidates our position as a leading global tourism destination. We are proud of the result of the hard work and effort of the government and private sector and are thrilled to continue being recognized for Riviera Maya’s excellence for the 14th consecutive year,” said Flota.

“This is the highest recognition given to those who transport, entertain, enlighten and accommodate billions of travelers each year,” said Arnie Weissmann, Travel Weekly’s editor in chief. “The travel industry is growing fast – much faster than global GDP – and every day, those who vote in our Readers Choice Awards must evaluate an ever-increasing number of transportation, hospitality and activity options on behalf of their clients. The companies they select as winners are the ones they know bring consumers the highest levels of satisfaction.”
