Riviera Maya Closes 2017 on High Note Celebrating 15th Anniversary of Riviera Maya Jazz Festival

 

Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo (December 14, 2017) Riviera Maya recently celebrated the 15thedition of the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival, considered one of the top 10 festivals of its kind in the world. The event paid special tribute to the late Mexican drummer Fernando Toussaint, who founded, directed and produced the famed festival.

 

“We are proud to have celebrated the 15th Anniversary of the Riviera Maya Jazz festival, an event that highlights the culture that surrounds the Riviera Maya,” said Dario Flota, Riviera Maya and Cozumel Tourism Board Director. “Our Jazz Festival is an international affair that celebrates diversity in music in an incredible setting.”

 

Performances by Bobby McFerrin, Señor Vitalis Plays Aguamala, Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas and Steffie Beltt were some of the festival’s highlights. The festival also featured a special presentation by John McLaughlin and Jimmy Herring from their tour “The Meeting of the Spirits” and an homage to Toussaint.  20-time Grammy award winner Chick Corea was part of the closing night along with American trumpet player Wallace Roney.

 

The three-day outdoor event which was hosted at Mamita´s Beach Club (November 30- December 2), brought together music lovers from all over the world to the beautiful beaches of Riviera Maya. This year, the event received approximately 20,000 attendees per night.
