On World Tourism Day, Celebrating 10 Years of Making Travel Matter

With The Travel Corporation and The TreadRight Foundation

Supporting more than 50 sustainable tourism projects that help people, wildlife, and the planet

BOCA RATON, Fla., Sept. 27, 2018The Travel Corporation’s (TTC) family of brands marks World Tourism Day 2018 by celebrating the 10th anniversary of The TreadRight Foundation, the not-for-profit organization at the heart of TTC’s commitment to making tourism a force for positive change around the world.

Born from TTC Chief Executive Brett Tollman’s vision to make travel matter, The TreadRight Foundation has spent the last decade working to help support more than 50 sustainable tourism projects worldwide – and that’s just the beginning.

“We are not simply united as a family of brands, we are also united by our shared drive to help make the world a better place,” says Tollman. “It’s a philosophy that we’ve worked hard to ensure is woven throughout all that we do. From supporting and empowering the local communities we visit, to raising awareness around some of the world’s most at-risk wildlife populations and contributing to the overall health of the planet, TreadRight has been instrumental in powering TTC’s continuing sustainability journey.”

TreadRight helps TTC bring this vision of sustainability to life through its three key pillars: people, wildlife, and the planet. Through these pillars, TreadRight and TTC work together to leave a positive impact as they explore.

To help celebrate 10 years of making travel matter, TreadRight and TTC have released a new #MakeTravelMatter video highlighting the initiatives as well as organization and expert partners – such as TreadRight Ambassador Céline Cousteau and Steering Committee Chair Costas Christ – while underscoring the role each pillar plays in the organization’s mission.

Among the recent social responsibility initiatives introduced by TreadRight for the TTC family of brands is an e-documents programdelivered in partnership with One Tree Planted, a leading not-for-profit focused on global reforestation. Through the program, for every TTC guest that opts to receive e-documents rather than printed materials, One Tree Planted will plant a tree in a destination of their choice. To date, the initiative has seen One Tree Planted plant more than 20,000 trees on behalf of TTC and its guests.

TreadRight has also worked with TTC in its commitment to eliminate all avoidable single-use plastics across all operations by 2022. The commitment was introduced with an immediate ban of more than 60 types of single-use plastic items such as straws, coffee stirrers, water bottles, plastic bags, and cutlery from TTC’s 30-plus offices around the world.

“We’ve learned a great deal through our first decade, with one key takeaway from 10 years of sustainability projects being the need to lead by example. TTC’s devotion to their sustainability journey has allowed them to do exactly that,” says Program Director Shannon Guihan, The TreadRight Foundation. “The TTC family of brands has been an ardent supporter and advocate for our work. We know this past decade is only the beginning of an incredibly important shared endeavor, to make travel matter.”

The TreadRight Foundation looks forward to helping TTC’s family of brands continue to effect positive change in the world, working with influential storytellers, aligning with sustainability leaders, and partnering with meaningful projects across the planet.
