RYE, N.Y., Oct. 11, 2018 – At Insight Vacations, the leader in premium escorted journeys, innovation is what sets us apart. We continually evaluate our trips, experiences and destinations, looking for ways to make them better, more immersive, and more aligned with what guests want and need.
2019 is no exception. In addition to the five brand-new journeys to Greece, Malta and Scandinavia we’re offering next year, we’ve enhanced some of our existing itineraries with authentic new Insight Experiences to make them more vibrant, relevant and memorable than ever.
Here’s a taste of what’s new for 2019 at Insight Vacations:
As its name suggests, the aurora borealis features prominently in our newest Scandinavia itinerary, ‘Northern Lights of Scandinavia.’ Though it can’t be 100% guaranteed, chances are very high that guests will get to see this dazzling celestial display on this incredible 10-day journey. If they don’t see it when they’re out and about, guests might just catch a view of the dancing lights through the glass ceiling of their hotel room in Finnish Lapland. This itinerary also includes a visit to a working sled dog farm in Alta, Norway. During this one-of-a-kind Insight Experience guests meet champion dog-sledder Trine Lyrek and her adorable Alaskan Huskies, and learn about the challenges she faces competing in Arctic dog sled races. They can even experience the thrill of a dog sled ride for themselves, during an (optional) ride with some of the best racing dogs in the country.
Malta is a brilliant yet underrated European destination. There’s no language barrier for English-speaking visitors, the climate is warm and inviting, and it’s absolutely stunning to look at. We love it so much that we decided to create a standalone itinerary to Malta in 2019, ‘Easy Pace Malta.’ On this 6-day journey guests stroll the shady, peaceful streets of the golden-walled city of Mdina with a Local Expert and find out why it’s known as the Silent City. In Marsaxlokk they’ll walk through the stalls at the famous fish market and marvel at the vividly colored luzzu, the traditional Maltese fishing boats. In the capital, Valletta, guests will visit spots such as the Upper Barrakka Gardens and baroque St John’s Cathedral with a local expert, and in their free time they can opt for a visit to Malta’s ancient megalithic temples of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra, recognized as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The 7-day ‘Jordan Experience’ is one of Insight’s most exciting Mediterranean itineraries, and in 2019 it’s been revamped with several new experiences. In Amman, guests now get to visit the Iraq Al-Amir Women’s Cooperative Society, an organization which helps local women find and keep employment. Guests can even learn from the women how to make traditional Jordanian handicrafts from paper, fabric, and ceramics. This trip also now includes a night of luxurious ‘glamping’ in Bedouin tents at Wadi Rum. Guests take a scenic Jeep safari deep into the heart of the desert, dine with locals under the stars, then tuck in for the night in the elegantly simple tents. We’ve also added an additional night in Petra, which gives guests the unique opportunity to see the rose-red city’s ancient monuments by night, and dine with locals at Ammarin Camp.
The Greek islands are perennially popular, thanks to their blissful beaches, whitewashed houses and ancient ruins. Travelers who just can’t decide which island to visit will love our new 12-day ‘Greek Island Hopper’ itinerary, which combines a day of sightseeing in Athens with visits to two of the most famous islands in the Mediterranean: Mykonos and Santorini. In Mykonos, guests explore the maze of pretty alleyways and stunning Cycladic houses of Mykonos town with a Local Expert, then later stop to taste a selection of local delicacies and learn the secrets of Mykonian cuisine. They’ll also meet a Greek boat captain and take a blissful cruise to the island’s stunning south-facing beaches, where they’ll relax and enjoy the balmy weather and azure water. In Santorini, guests meet a local geology expert who reveals the secrets of this volcanic island and its caldera, and describes how it was all formed. Guests also have the option to visit the ancient city of Akrotiri, which was once buried by volcanic ash but uncovered in 1967, and continue to a local winery to spend an afternoon tasting the finest regional flavors.
Those seeking a shorter yet equally satisfying stay in Greece can opt for either our ‘Mykonos & Athens’ or ‘Santorini & Athens’itineraries. Both of these new 7-day trips are the perfect add-on to one of our longer European journeys, and provide plenty of sun, sand, seafood, and history.
