Experience Oktoberfest 2019 with Insight Vacations

A 12-day special-interest itinerary that highlights the history and culture of Germany and Austria

NEW YORK, Nov. 15, 2018 – If you’ve always wanted to attend Oktoberfest but missed it this year, Insight Vacations can take you there next fall on our exciting 12-day itinerary, which also explores the highlights of central Europe.

Not only does this remarkable journey offer guests priority access to the world’s most famous beer festival, but it also traces a path through the historic landmarks of Germany, the beautiful Alpine landscapes of Bavaria, and the wonders of imperial Austria.

“Oktoberfest is arguably one of the most anticipated celebrations of the year, and this Insight itinerary lets travelers experience it in the best way possible,” said Jon Grutzner, president of Insight Vacations. “Guests are treated to exclusive reservations in the festival’s famous Ochsenbraterei tent, plus a variety of notable five-star accommodations and unforgettable dining experiences throughout central Europe.”

Beginning in dynamic Berlin, guests visit landmarks of both the eastern and western sections of the city such as the Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden and the Reichstag Building before exploring the Tiergarten and Kurfürstendamm, famous for its shopping and entertainment. The next stop is Dresden, known as ‘Florence on the Elbe,’ where guests see the splendors of the city with a Local Expert, from the Frauenkirche, to ‘The Procession of the Dukes,’ to the Semper Opera House and Baroque Zwinger Palace. The next stop is Nuremberg, where the charming stone and timber dwellings of the old town center sit in the shadow of massive ramparts.

In fun-loving Munich guests tour the Feldernhalle on the Odeonsplatz, the Palace of the Dukes of Wittelsbach, English Garden, Hofbräuhaus, St. Peter’s Church and Marienplatz. Then it’s time for Oktoberfest! Guests are treated to VIP reservations in the Ochsenbraterei tent, ensuring they sample the best local beer and Bavarian specialties while partaking in the festival’s entertainment and amusement rides. The next morning, guests learn the fascinating history of BMW, and in the evening join special guest Patrick von Richthofen, a direct descendant of the Red Baron – one of the most famous fighter pilots of WWI – for an unforgettable dinner at the Michelin-starred Les Deux restaurant.

A short drive over the Austrian border leads to Salzburg, the city of Mozart, which comes to life with private tours of the imposing Hohensalzburg Fortress, Mozart’s birthplace, and the gardens of the Mirabell Palace, seen in “The Sound of Music.” The next day is set aside for an excursion into the real Alpine Bavaria, past picturesque farmhouses and villages to the small mountain paradise of Obersalzberg, and the site of Hitler’s notorious “Eagles Nest.”

In the stunning Wachau Valley, guests join a river cruise down the Danube below forested hills topped with picturesque churches, ruined castles such as the fortress of Dürnstein, and the great monastery of Melk. Then it’s on to Krems, where guests sample the unique Wachau-style wine in the cellars of a local winery. The last day is spent in imperial Vienna, where guests take a guided tour of Maria Theresa’s Schönbrunn Palace and formal gardens, enjoy the legendary coffee and cakes at Café Demel, and experience an extraordinary concert of Viennese classical music combined with a delicious meal of traditional Austrian fare.

This exciting foray into one of the world’s most beautiful regions includes authentic dining, accommodation in stylish hotels in central locations, and participation in immersive Insight Experiences.
