Barceló Hotel Group Recognized Once Again by Green Globe
MIAMI (Feb. 13, 2020) – Barceló Hotel Group is at the forefront of eco-friendly practices in the hospitality sphere – and that commitment to sustainability was recognized once again this year as several of the Spanish hotel chain’s properties have recently attained the Green Globe certification. This accreditation promotes the implementation of sustainability standards in the operation and management of resort destinations and communities.
“Barceló Hotel Group recognizes that sustainable practices are essential, not only to the destinations in which our properties are located, but to the entire world,” said Juan Perez, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Barceló Hotel Group Latin America. “The Green Globe certification represents the highest standard for sustainability worldwide and we congratulate all the property teams who work diligently 365 days a year to ensure our resorts are as ‘green’ as possible.”
Green Globe evaluates the sustainable practices carried out by several travel and tourism businesses that aim to improve people’s quality of life and productivity. These practices include the preservation of ecological balance, the protection of the environment, and the responsible use of resources. Green Globe certification levels are divided into three separate categories: certified, gold and platinum member. This year, the organization has awared Gold status to Barceló Bávaro Grand Resort in acknowledgment of 5 consecutive years of sustainable management and operations.
Additionally, several Barceló Hotel Group properties, including Barceló Bávaro Grand Resort, Occidental Cozumel and Allegro Cozumel, have banned the use, marketing and distribution of single-use plastic products. The chain is constantly introducing new sustainable methods to reduce waste, including new water dispensers, food composting and reusable electronic wristbands in lieu of disposable plastic key cards for rooms.
