ARC Announces September as Fraud Awareness Month

Company Marks Event with Free Educational Webinars on Fraud Prevention

ARLINGTON, Va. – September 4, 2018 – Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC) kicks off a month-long series of 10 free educational webinars tomorrow to aid travel agencies in fighting payment fraud. The webinars are the cornerstone of ARC’s Fraud Awareness Month, an event to energize agencies to be more mindful of the true costs of fraud and how to prevent it. Covered topics range from how to fight fraud through collaboration to using behavioral analytics to spot fraudsters. The presenters will also provide practical tips and tools to help agencies protect their business.

Participants in the webinars include representatives from law enforcement agencies, such as the National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance, and the private sector including Ethoca, Featurspace, Perseuss, and ARC.

“With the ubiquitous nature of online bookings, alternative forms of payment and card-not-present transactions, the agency channel is a prime target for sophisticated fraudsters. And that risk grows annually as does the cost of managing it,” said Cornelius Hattingh, ARC’s director of risk management and compliance. “The webinars we have set for September will provide fresh insights on fraud prevention technology and best practices to help agencies level the playing field between them and the fraudsters.”

ARC launches the webinar series tomorrow with, “Fraud Schemes Affecting the Agency Community,” where attendees will learn:

  • Which fraud schemes are most commonly used
  • Why these criminals target travel agencies, and what they’re trying to gain
  • What lengths fraudsters will go to in order to appear legitimate
  • What kinds of tools fraudsters use to deceive agencies, including digitally-altered passports, driver licenses and credit card images
