Building of Scenic Eclipse Begins with Steel Cutting Ceremony at Uljanik Shipyard in Croatia

World’s First Discovery Yacht Scheduled to Launch August 2018

Boston & Vancouver, December 2016 – Scenic marked the official start of production of the world’s first Discovery Yacht, Scenic Eclipse, with a steel cutting ceremony at the Uljanik Shipyard JSC in Pula, Croatia last month. The 228-passenger ultra-luxury mega yacht, designed especially for polar expedition cruising conditions, is scheduled for its maiden voyage in August 2018.

“This is a momentous day for Scenic,” said Glen Moroney, Chairman. “To see our vision start to come to life is very exciting and we look forward to watching the build progress over the next 18 months. We are extremely proud of the ship’s design and its advanced technological features, and can’t wait to share Scenic Eclipse with our guests in 2018.”

Scenic Eclipse has been designed by a collaboration of internal and external naval architects including Foreship in Finland and and Oliver Design from Spain, and the ship is being built by Uljanik Group in Croatia. The opulentinteriors have been designed by Karen Moroney.

The Scenic Eclipse will able to go to the most remote of destinations in a luxury not seen before in expedition ships. Just a sampling of its luxuries includes a near 1:1 guest-to-staff ratio, six restaurants, numerous spacious bars and lounges, a 5,000-sq. ft. spa, a well-equipped gym, multiple pools, all-verandah suites that range from 350 to 2,500 sq. ft., a 240-seat theatre, two helicopters, a 7-seat submarine, and more amenities than space allows.

And, of course, a dream ship must have dream itineraries and Scenic Eclipse makes the most of its strengths by taking in the polar regions of Antarctica and the arctic, the Mediterranean, the countries on the west coast of Europe, the Americas and the Caribbean.

Scenic offers award-winning, all-inclusive escorted tours in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Americas and elsewhere, while offering the same level of expertise and truly all-inclusive river cruises in Europe and the Mekong, Irrawaddy and Russia.
