Boston & Vancouver, November 2019 – The whisky fanatic’s adage says, “every loaf of bread is a tragic story of grains that could’ve become beer or whisky but didn’t…” No such issue exists at Scenic Eclipse’s whisky bar where 110 bottles of Uisge-beatha na h-Alba (Gaelic for whisky or “water of life”) are available for guests to sample and enjoy.
Located in the main lounge of the World’s First Discovery Yacht, the Whisky Bar is a favorite gathering place for many of the ship’s 228 guests. The floor to ceiling display case, backed by a wall of translucent quartz crystal, puts the ship’s 110 varieties of whisky on gorgeous display. The stock includes single malts such as a 25-year-old Glendullan, a 30-year-old Jura The Loch and a 16-year-old Lagavulin. Blended whiskies, include the most famous of super-premium blends, Johnny Walker Blue; Ireland’s Jameson Select Reserve Black Barrel; Canada’s Crown Royal Deluxe; and an array of examples from Australia, Japan, Taiwan, France, India, USA, South Africa and Sweden – all included as part of Scenic’s unique all-inclusive policy.
Guests gravitate to the bar to mingle and trade stories of their day’s experiences, including exploring on one of two Airbus helicopters or the on board the six-guest submarine; to enjoying discovery excursions via kayak, paddleboards and e-bikes; a treatment at the 5,920 ft2 Senses Spa, a Pilates class or work out in the well-equipped gym; listening to educational seminars given by Discovery Team; or coming back after taking in the local cultures and sights highlighted on one of many shore excursions.
Scenic’s industry-first policy of being truly all-inclusive on their river ships holds true on its first ocean vessel. The only additional charges are for personal spa treatments and services, helicopter and submarine excursions, and some very high-end wines on the Chairman’s Cellar List. Everything else – all drinks, meals, room service, butlers, transfers, gratuities, excursions and lectures are included.
Dining on board Scenic Eclipse is a global culinary journey with 14 different nations represented in the kitchens and up to 10 unique dining experiences ranging from causal to fine dining and inspired by all corners of the globe. From contemporary French fine dining at Lumiere to top grade fillets of steak cooked to perfection in the elegant Elements restaurant, a casual meal in the Azure Bar and Café, or modern Asian fusion at Koko’s, there is never a shortage of choice.
